I joined because I wanted to work through some personal things and doing it in French seemed like a good idea. It allows you to slow down and think in French. I followed Jessica for a while before I joined. There is no time like the present. I feel far more confident in my French than I did a year ago!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the program run?

The Journal in French Club is hosted on Telegram, a free app that protects your data. When you join, you receive an e-mail with a link to our private community. Every day from Monday to Friday, you’ll receive a new journaling prompt together with a short voice message in French. You’re free to turn on or turn off notifications. Once a month, you’ll get a bonus email sharing a special tip to improve your experience.

What level of French should I be?

The ideal level to join is intermediate to advanced. What it means is that you’ll have an easier experience if you’re already conversational: you can form sentences, express your thoughts, talk about the past and the future. The fact that you make mistakes is not important, but you’ll feel better if you know how to form the sentences to answer the prompts.

How long does it take?

That’s the beauty of this mini-program : it’s up to you. You can choose to sit and journal for 5 to 10 minutes every day, or to plan longer and deeper journaling sessions at the week-end. There’s no fixed rule and you’re encouraged to find what suits best your lifestyle and preferences.

What materials do I need?

Additionally to a smart phone to connect to Telegram, I recommend having a notebook and a pen. If like me, you love the creative part of journaling too, you could some washi tape, a few stickers, a couple of colorful fountain pens. Let it be what you’d love it to be.

How long does the program run?

The Journal in French Club is ongoing. You choose how long you want to stay.

What will I get out of this Club?

You’ll get the gentle nudge you need to start your habit of journaling and practicing French daily. Your self-awareness, mental, emotional and linguistic well-being will improve. You’ll get a sense of being supported, welcomed, and part of something quite special. That said, like with any other program, you get out of it exactly what you put in : the more you interact, the more benefits you’ll see.

Do I have to be online at a certain moment?

Not at all. When a new prompt or a new audio is released, you’ll get a notification on your phone. You use them at your best convenience, at the moment you’ve chosen to dedicate to journaling in French.

Will there be conversation sessions?

No, that’s not currently part of this program which focuses mainly on the inner part of language practice. You can use the journaling prompts to journal “out loud” , like speaking prompts though. I do it all the time, my family think I’m crazy but it works! I may offer live journaling sessions in the future.

Will I have assignments?

No, you won’t. The Journal in French Club empowers you to me your own teacher, to set your own rules. The prompts are solely invitations to sit and journal. You’re never obliged to do so, and no corrections will be offered.

What if I don’t like it?

If you’re having trouble enjoying the Club for whatever reason, you can always contact me directly via chat message on Telegram or via email, I’ll be happy to help you. That said, if within 72 hours max of joining the Club, you decided that this isn’t for you, contact me and I’ll offer you a full refund.

What if I want corrections and feedback?

If you’d like to receive language corrections and feedback on your journaling prompts from me, it is absolutely possible. You can contact me privately and we’ll discuss the terms of this additional service.

Bonjour! Moi, c’est Jessica

I started journaling in foreign languages when I was a teenager, as a strategy to keep the content of my journal a secret from my mom.

Little did I know that I was opening the door to a whole new dimension of me, whilst discovering an incredible tool for language fluency and confidence.

I’ve been journaling (almost) daily for 3 decades, I speak French, English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and a tiny bit of Dutch.

In 2017, I founded Bubbles of French, a project where I teach & offer mindful & alternative approaches to language learning.

The most fascinating aspect to journaling in the languages we learn, I find, is how it easily sheds light on parts of ourselves that were until then unknown, unseen, unwritten.
